ATRESSI CO·L SIGNES FAI
(366.2)
MW, II, 1; Choix, III, 271.
The relationship of the MSS. is somewhat intricate. The variants reveal the close connection throughout between ADEH; these MSS. stand together in 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 25, 28, 44, and are usually opposed to C. a (cf. 5, 28, 37, 43, 44) is often individualistic but frequently inclines to C (cf. 3, 16, 23), rarely to the first group (but cf. 2, 35). As will be seen by the variants, M, R and T are erratic, occasionally tending to ADEH and occasionally having individual readings; on the whole, however, there appears to be some connection between these MSS. and C (cf. 2, 8, 29, 51). The position of IK varies; these MSS. appear to occupy a mean position between ADEH and C, inclining to the former in 2, 9, 16, 23, 29, 35, 37, 51, and to the latter in 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 25, 28. L and N have many common readings (cf. 5, 6, 10, 24, 27, 30, 41, 43, 49, 51) and both lack stanza 5; they frequently show affinities with the group ADEH (cf. 7, 8, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 26). Of the defective MSS., F and Dc obviously belong to the group ADEH; W, though often individualistic (cf. 5, 6, 8), inclines sometimes to the C group (cf. 2, 5). The groupings, then, would appear to be as follows: ADEH(Dc)(F), LN; IK; C, M, R, T, a, (W).
Because of its mean position between the extreme groups and the general clarity of its readings, the group IK has been adopted as base.
