Although the variants are relatively of little importance, certain welldefined groups are to be observed which confirm those shown by the analysis of the stanza order. Thus ADaIK stand against the remaining MSS. in 1, 6, 12, 17, 18, 23, 37, 42 and form a group. Among the other MSS. the following subgroups are apparent; MM1a (cf. 1, 23, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41), CRR1SV (1, 6, 12, 17, 18, 23, 27, 37, 41, 42), although R occasionally inclines to MM1a (cf. 29, 38) and it should be pointed out that v. 3 is missing in MM1Ra. GQ are identical but the variants are not important enough to reveal to which of the subgroups they belong.
Since all the MSS. offer good readings it matters little which of them is selected as base. The main differences occur in the last verse in which the style of ADaIK, particularly in the last four lines which are merely, in these MSS., a succession of laudatory epithets, is inferior to that of C. The latter has, therefore, been adopted as base, although slight changes have occasionally been made.
