From the variants and errors two groups, ADIKNN2 and CGLRa1, are to be observed, standing frequently opposed (24, 33, 35, 38, 39, 59, 60, 62, 64). The latter group may be further divided, and a subgroup GLa1 (19, 20, 21, 32, 38, 53, 55, 61), standing usually against all the other MSS., is confirmed by the omission of ll. 42–52 (the equivalent of an entire stanza); the strongest link is GL (31, 78, ll. 75–6 lacking). The close relationship of CR, apparent in 5, 17, 60, 66, 75, 76, is demonstrated by the inverted order of stanzas 4 and 5 and by the presence in these MSS. alone of stanza 7. Both these MSS. are strongly individualistic, however, and C sometimes separates from its group to join ADIKNN2 (21, 30, 39, 54). The readings of this group are generally superior to those of the other MSS., and internal divergences are slight (DIKN: 34, 74, 77; IK: 8, 12, 42, 49). Summary of relationships: ADIKNN2; C, R, GLa1.
Base and Orthography: A(stanza 7 : C).
