10. bordeitz: Jeanroy, following Monaci and e3, emends to burdens, adj., “qui folâtrent”; our text agrees with Stimming; Suchier (1874) prefers burdens; Bertoni (1915) follows Stimming, and translates “toy” (cf. mod. Prov. bourdet; Mistral, Tresor dou Felibrige, I, 334).

13. tot aitau: Jeanroy prints tot’aitau; we follow Stimming and Monaci in taking tot aitau as an invariable formulaic phrase.

15. sen trop soen marrir : Stimming and Monaci print the MSS’ reading suy trop soen marritz; we follow Jeanroy’s emendation, since a rhyme-word in -ir is required.

16. non ai: Jeanroy prints no n’ai, but the antecedent of n’ is somewhat dubious; we follow Stimming.

20. enantitz: Monaci prints e3’s enaizitz.

26. The phrase sos joys is taken here, following Bertoni (1915), as a formula similar to sos cors, syntactically equivalent to elha. Monaci prints e’s sest joi.

37, 38. amor; mal; cal: Jeanroy adopts Stimming’s emendations amors, mau, cau; none is necessary; in mal and cal the -al spelling need not affect pronunciation.

42. e·l dia: Stimming prints el dia; Jeanroy prints et dia, but here is not followed by Casella, whose text we follow .

43. socors: Stimming and Monaci print the MSS’ reading son cors and are followed by Casella; we adopt Jeanroy’s emendation since it is necessary for the rhyme in close -ors.

45 fa·s elha: Stimming prints fas elha; we follow with a slight change Jeanroy’s fa s’elha.

50. ieu au lieis: Jeanroy emends to non ai lieis; our text agrees with Stimming, following e3. Jeanroy adopted Stimming’s emendation of luec aizit, and we follow this for the rhyme. Topsfield (1975), p. 52, notes the contrast between luecs aizitz and greu logau in line 14.

52. que sol baizar: Jeanroy emends to qu’us sols baizars; he also adopts Stimming’s emendation of escarit for the rhyme, and we follow this latter.

53. lo cor: Stimming follows e’s quel cor.

54. per: Jeanroy emends to pro, which is not necessary; per may be taken here as an adverb of intensity.
